The 29-year-old admits he felt a lot of pressure to get the performance right.

“For me as an actor I did it because I wanted to prove something to myself and I wanted a challenge,” he told Sky News.

“But once that’s all done, once you’re actually on set and making the movie… I just wanted to make Vinny proud.”

Teller said his intensive training was “pushed” by the fact that he “did not want to let this man down”.

“I didn’t want him to be embarrassed,” he said.

Teller says he did a lot of research about the 53-year-old sportsman before meeting him.

That way, he could approach the role with authenticity
